Friday, 15 June 2012
The Be Your Best Foundation's Global Rock Challenge, which aims to show children they do not need alcohol, tobacco or drugs to have fun, has been awarded a grant by Hampshire County Council.
At his Decision Day (13 June 2012), Leader of Hampshire County Council, Councillor Ken Thornber, awarded the organisation funding of £5,000.
The Rock Challenge provides the opportunity for schools to take part in a fun music competition, where the children are the stars. The focus of the event is on young people taking an active role in building safe and healthy communities, leading healthy lifestyles, and having fun while being drug-free. The 2013 Rock Challenge will take place in the Southampton and Portsmouth Guildhalls during the spring.
Leader of Hampshire County Council, Councillor Ken Thornber, said:
"The Global Rock Challenge is an innovative and exciting opportunity for young people to increase their confidence and develop new skills whilst enjoying being part of a large event.
"The event is growing in popularity every year, with more schools choosing to take part. Over the years it has proved itself to be extremely worthwhile and effective in teaching children and young people about the dangers of drugs."
The Be Your Best Foundation is a registered charity which runs the Rock Challenge in the UK. It aims to reduce drug misuse and crime among young people and encourage them to be good citizens.
