Go ahead for third phase of Bramley village improvements

Hampshire County Council has given the go ahead to start work on the third phase of improvements in Bramley to make it easier for people to get around the village and access local shops, doctors and school.

The third phase of the overall scheme will focus on improving accessibility for pedestrians and vehicular traffic in and around Moat Close and Bramley Lane especially for access to the local school adjacent to Moat Close.

The measures costing £382,000 consist of new sections of footway, on road parking bays, new road markings and lining together with new landscaping on the grassed area between Moat Close and Bramley Lane.

The main works on Bramley Lane are expected to start in early August, and will take approximately nine weeks to complete. Coinciding with this scheme, planned maintenance on roads in Bramley, under the Operation Resilience programme, will be taking place to strengthen and make the roads more resilient to withstand the effects of weather and increasing volumes of traffic. Both works have been programmed to take place at the same time to help to minimise disruption for local residents and businesses.

Councillor Mel Kendal, Executive Member for Environment and Transport, said:

"The planned improvements will make it easier for people to walk in and around the village and to access local facilities including the local shops and school. There will be some unavoidable disruption while the work is going on and we have timed this work to start during the early part of the school summer holidays to minimise the disruption as far as possible. I would ask residents to bear with us while this essential work is being carried out. When completed the improvements will bring noticeable benefits for the village and make a positive contribution to the quality of life for residents who live there."

While the work is in progress, access to properties and local facilities will be maintained as far as possible. It will be necessary at times for traffic to be controlled by temporary lights or stop and go boards operated by staff on site. A road closure will be in force when the road resurfacing is carried out and signs advising of the closure will be set out in advance.
