There are certain situations where the calculator will not provide the information you want, for example if you are looking to retire before age 65, or if you pay into one of our additional contribution contracts
Basic Pension Calculations
As the scheme regulations changed on the 1 April 2008, there are two parts for calculating your pension if you have service before this date.
For service built up after 1 April 2008
Annual Pension Calculation |
Lump Sum Calculation |
|---|---|
|
Your final pay ÷ 60 x the number of years you have been in the scheme. |
There is no longer an automatic lump sum. Instead you can exchange £1 of your annual pension for £12 of one off lump sum. |
For service built up before 1 April 2008
Annual Pension Calculation |
Lump Sum Calculation |
|---|---|
|
Your final pay ÷ 80 x the number of years you have been in the scheme. |
Your final pay ÷ 80 x 3 x the number of years you have been in the scheme. |
Relevant for service prior to and after 1 April 2008
If you work part time, the number of years that count in your pension calculations are pro-rated.
if you work 10 years half time, this will count as five years service.
You will receive an annual benefit statement each year giving you a summary of your benefits to date.
Producing a summary of your benefits involves a lot of work as we have to get accurate information from your employer. If you need a statement of your benefits and think your annual benefit statement is not suitable then please let us know
This should only be used by contributing members of the Local Government Pension Scheme.
You can use the attached calculator to work out the cost of buying additional pension over a chosen period, depending on your age at the date contributions would begin.
You can also find more details, including costs in the ‘Purchase of additional pension’ guidance and Paying additional regular contributions booklet and application form.
The calculator provides you with an estimate of the pension you could expect to obtain according to the retirement age and the level of AVC contributions you select.
This is a Prudential calculator. If you are having any difficulties using this you should contact Prudential directly
