Schools Recycling Programme
We offer a free recycling programme for schools to help them get started or improve their recycling. Our team of Recycling Officers work with schools each term to help them reduce their rubbish, increase their recycling and save them money. Taking part in our programme is a great way to help your school achieve Eco School status and work towards becoming a Sustainable School and it’s lots of fun too!

Visits from Recycling Officers
Recycling Officers from many of the local authorities in Hampshire are also available to visit schools to deliver assemblies and run activity sessions. These can be tailored to meet the needs of your school and can be a great introduction to taking part in our Schools Recycling Programme.
Contact your local council for more details.
Recycling collection Service
If your school isn’t recycling already, setting up a collection contract is really easy. County Supplies has a waste and recycling contract available to all schools in Hampshire. The contract recycling prices are 40% cheaper than those for general rubbish collections which means that real savings can be made by schools who recycle. It is believed that 90% of school waste is recyclable and 70% of schools in Hampshire have now signed to this contract.
The contract includes the collection of:
- Mixed recyclables (cans, tins, plastic bottles, paper and card)
- Office grade white paper (collected separately and free of charge)
- Glass
- Hazardous waste
- Confidential waste
- Regular general waste collection
The service providers are:

Wormeries
Table top wormeries can be hired out for a period of 6 weeks. The glass viewing tanks should be filled with layers of soil, sand and compost. Several worms are added to the tank and over the 6 weeks the children are able to view the worms in action as they create tunnels through the soil and collect leaves and fruit from the surface. Once studied, your school may decided to invest in a large composting wormery for the school’s organic waste, details on which can be found below.
