Emergency Response

1. Introduction

1.1 Running repairs are necessary to keep the network safe and these works are generated from formalised inspections and reports from members of the public. Emergencies, requiring immediate attention are generally reported by the foregoing or directly from the emergency services.

2. Relevant Legislation

2.1 Section 41 of the Highways Act 1980 imposes a duty on the Highway Authority to maintain those roads that are ‘highway maintainable at public expense’.

3. Policy

3.1 The County Council as the Highway Authority shall be available day and night on a 24 hour basis.

3.2 The County Council as the Highway Authority shall attend emergencies where safety is an issue within 1 hour of the reported incident and arrangements to make the area safe be actioned immediately on attendance.
