Upham Primary School has a dedicated 'Be Green Team' which includes school children, parents and teachers. In June 2009 the school gained a Bronze Eco-Schools award, and hope to progress through to a Green Flag Award
Things Upham do already:
Light and computer monitors to make sure lights/computers are turned off when classrooms are not in use
Compost monitors to make sure fruit and vegetable waste is composted
Recycling monitors to ensure that recycling is achieved where possible
Planting to ensure biodiversity in the school grounds
A 'walking bus' scheme to encourage walking to school, and installation of a bike shed
Things Upham propose to do in future:
Research the greater use of recycled paper and paper towels
Add bird tables/feeders/houses to the school grounds
Researching what can be done with general food waste from school dinners, and aim to add another compost bin
Investigating ways of cutting down on heating costs, including the installation of thermostatic radiator valves
