Bishops Green drainage and access improvements
These works start on 22 July 2013.
Hampshire County Council is improving the local drainage infrastructure to prevent the flooding seen in recent winters.
At the same time will simultaneously upgrade the footway connections between the village and the A339.
The main change the scheme will bring is a new traffic calming measure at the county boundary on the bridge, where the road will be narrowed to a one-way priority feature, allowing a full width footway connection to fully accommodate all users.
The scheme has been agreed with the Ecchinswell, Sydmonton and Bishops Green Parish Council, as well as County Councillor Tom Thacker.
Ecchinswell Road will be closed between Ash Road and the A339. Access will be retained to properties in this section, but through movements will be impossible for much of this period.
The full diversion route is to the south via Kingsclere, but to accommodate possible increased traffic, Featherbed Lane will be one-way in to Bishops Green from the west and Hyde Lane will be one way to the A339 in the east. Access to the Darling Buds of May garden centre will remain two-way as at present. (see the plan for full diversion route)
The scheme will involve a road closure of Ecchinswell Road from the A339 in the north to the Ash Road junction in the south. This will start on the 29 July. The overall scheme is expected to last for about14 weeks from then, but every effort will be made to keep the road closure to as short a proportion of this as possible.
