Volunteering Policy Statement

Hampshire County Council:

  • values the positive contribution made by volunteers to life in Hampshire and will encourage more people to volunteer in their local community.

  • has a strong history of working with local volunteers who add significant value to the services we deliver.  We wish to develop and strengthen these links and opportunities.

  • recognises that volunteering can help a person’s physical and mental well- being,  provide an opportunity to meet other people and gain additional skills, experience and work opportunities.

  • is committed to promoting diversity and to offering volunteer placements for people of all ages, interests and abilities.

  • will seek to remove any barriers which may prevent people from volunteering, to ensure that as many people as possible who wish to volunteer are able to do so.

When will the County Council engage volunteers?

The County Council may engage volunteers in a number of circumstances

  • to work with employees where this would enhance the service overall

  • in situations where a service would otherwise not be made available so that members of the public who need and use it are not disadvantaged.

  • to develop volunteering opportunities which help us to engage  with  specific communities

  • to enable skills development in under-represented groups.
